About Dr. Smith

Dr. Brenda Smith graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995.  She spent the following 18 years in private practices in Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii. The satisfaction gained from volunteer work in areas such as the Cook Islands, Galapagos Islands, and Dominican Republic led to a three year overpopulation project in American Samoa. Dr Smith moved back to Oahu in 2017.

Dr Smith is licensed to practice traditional veterinary medicine in Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii.  Additionally, she has trained to practice acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for pets.  She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association (HVMA), the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), the American Association of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA), and the American Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association (AHVMA).

Now living in Kailua, Dr Smith offers relief services for area veterinary clinics in addition to Cherished Pet’s services.  She enjoys stand up surfing, hiking, canoe paddling and sailing in her spare time.

Dr. Smith appreciates the need for families to be able to spend their last moments with their pet in the comfort and privacy of their own home.  She began Cherished Pet for these dedicated people and their pets.

The home euthanasia was so appreciated, that upon returning to Oahu she decided to combine that service with her previous experience in acupuncture and holistic / herbal medicine and expand the house call practice.
